Pet Friendly Housing Accreditation

Hillhead Housing Association is pleased to be recognised as a pet friendly social landlord through our new accreditation from Dogs Trust.

We know how important pets are to many of our residents. By working with Dogs Trust, we’ve been able to strengthen our approach in a way that supports pet owners while also considering the needs of neighbours and the wider community.

Working with Dogs Trust has helped us review and strengthen how we support tenants who have pets. As part of this, we have introduced a pet policy (see here) that promotes responsible pet ownership and provides clearer guidance for tenants. This includes automatic permission to keep at least one pet in your home, provided the pet is cared for responsibly and does not cause nuisance or concern for neighbours.  Our new pet permission application form allows us to capture more information on your pets and so we can deliver our services and adapt processes with this data.

We have also developed tenant information packs to help pet owners understand their responsibilities, support their pet’s welfare needs and know where to find further advice if needed.

Our staff have also taken part in specialist training delivered by Dogs Trust, helping them feel more confident and better equipped when interacting with dogs during home visits.

This accreditation reflects our commitment to creating inclusive and supportive communities where tenants, neighbours and pets can live well together.
